Catholics, Lutherans make history in LaGrange

LAGRANGE — Lutherans and Roman Catholics from LaGrange made history on Wednesday evening when they met for a joint “Common Prayer” service.

Patterned on a similar service held in Lund, Sweden, last year, it commemorated the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. It also marked a new agreement between the Lutheran World Federation and the Roman Catholic Church entitled “Declarations on the Way.” This document follows up on the work that the two organizations did which led up to the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification, signed in 1999.
