‘Roots and wings’ sustain church over the years (Pipestone, MN)

First Lutheran Church is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, an auspicious year that coincides with the anniversary of the birth of the Reformation in 1517 when Martin Luther nailed the 95 theses, or statements, to the church door in Wittenberg, Germany, and translated the Bible into German.

The coinciding anniversaries have offered opportunities for celebration as well as education about Martin Luther and the ministry of First Lutheran’s own congregation, according to Pastor Joyce Tollefson-Capp, an Anoka, Minn. native who joined the congregation in October 2013.

To aid the education, a church anniversary committee has produced a complete history of the church. Chuck Ness, a church member since 1975, was the primary author.
